BRECK'S - Frozen Queen Calla Lily - Unique Calla Lily for Garden or Patio
Category: calla lily bulbs
When you think you've seen it all, here comes a truly unique calla lily - the Frozen Queen. Featuring upright, trumpet-shaped flowers in a rich Bordeaux wine color, this stunning plant is a sight to behold. The foliage is equally captivating, with translucent, silvery white leaves outlined in green brush strokes that twist and curve as they grow, adding an even more uncommon and pretty look.
This versatile beauty can thrive both outdoors in the garden and indoors as a houseplant. Outdoors, it deserves a prime spot in the front row, such as in a border or patio pot, where its stunning blooms and foliage can be fully admired. In areas with hot, humid summers, it's best to plant the Frozen Queen where it will get at least some shade and avoid direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day.
Each offer includes one dormant bare root calla lily tuber measuring 12 to 14 cm in diameter. These tubers should be planted as soon as the risk of frost has passed, as they grow best in full sun to partial shade, but again, avoiding direct sunlight during the hottest hours.
In most climates, the bulbs will need to be dug up in the fall after the foliage yellows. They should then be stored in a dark place at a constant temperature of 40-50°F until replanting the following spring. In hardiness zones 9-10, and zone 8 with heavy mulch, the bulbs can safely be left in the ground all year round.
When growing Frozen Queen indoors, use any regular potting soil, keeping it humid but making sure no standing water gathers in the pot. In the fall, when the growing season is over, allow the plant to go dormant by discontinuing watering and letting the foliage die off. Then, move the plants to a dark area and store them for two to three months at 40-50°F before restarting the growth cycle. Consider repotting the bulbs in fresh soil at this time.
Potted Frozen Queen plants should be placed near a window, but not directly in the hot midday sun, as this could burn the leaves. An east-facing window, where they'll get morning sun, or a western window that lets in late-afternoon sunshine, is ideal. These plants perform best at temperatures of 65-75°F.
Frozen Queen grows 16 to 18 inches tall and wide, and can be grown outside after the danger of frost has passed in USDA zones 3 to 10. In all zones except 9 to 10, the bulbs will need to be lifted in the fall.
Don't miss out on this truly one-of-a-kind calla lily! Its stunning appearance and versatility make it a must-have addition to any garden or indoor space.
